Our 2023 rankings named University of South Dakota the most popular school in South Dakota for business students working on their master’s degree. University of South Dakota is a medium-sized public school located in Vermillion, South Dakota that handed out 114 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 44% were women.
One thing to take note of is that USD does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In fact, around 58% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Out of the 10 schools in South Dakota that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Sioux Falls landed the # 3 spot on the list. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and it awarded 81 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 53% of those degree recipients were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at University of Sioux Falls. During the 2019-2020 year, about 75% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you attend Black Hills State University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Most Popular Business Master’s Degree Schools in South Dakota list. BHSU is a small public school situated in Spearfish, South Dakota. It awarded 18 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Dakota Wesleyan University is a very small private not-for-profit school located in Mitchell, South Dakota that handed out 12 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Dakota Wesleyan University does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 31% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
South Dakota State University landed the #6 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree business programs. South Dakota State is located in Brookings, South Dakota and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 10 master’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 50% of those degree recipients were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at South Dakota State. In fact, around 45% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Augustana University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for business students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #7 on the list. Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 6 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 67% of those degree recipients were women.
Augustana Sioux Falls does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 80% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #8, Dakota State University did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for business students working on their master’s degree. Dakota State is located in Madison, South Dakota and has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 5 master’s degrees to qualified students.
Online graduate courses are available at Dakota State, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. During the 2019-2020 year, about 96% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Northern State University ranked #9 on this year’s Most Popular Business Master’s Degree Schools in South Dakota list. This small public school is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and it awarded 4 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 50% were women.
NSU does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In 2019-2020 about 84% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
With a ranking of #10, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for business students working on their master’s degree.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at SD Mines. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 44% took at least some of their classes online.
